Marriage of Betty McClain and Lee Scott, July 18, 1937

I’m kind of on a roll with weddings in the late 1930s, so here’s another. Like her older sister Florence, Betty McClain was married on the McClain farm in Tallman, and just a tad over four years after her sister, July 18, 1937.

Joe MacPherson, Lee Scott, Betty McClain (Scott), Marian Morris. The flower girl is Donna Wright, the bride’s niece, who was not yet three years old.

Betty was married in front of the same lattice as her sister, used the same organist as her sister (brother Bernard ;–) and even wore her sister’s veil. She wore her mother’s dress, though.

Her maid of honor was Marian Morris, a friend of long standing, who appears with Betty in many photos on this blog. I don’t have any information on the best man.

Betty graduated from Lebanon High School in 1935 (as did Lee a few years earlier). She then attended Linfield College for a year. The year preceding her wedding, she had been attending college in Coalinga, California.

Lee had started his own plumbing business in Lebanon—one that would keep him busy for over twenty years. They sold the business in 1957. Sad to say, the exposure to asbestos while working as a plumber also eventually took his life. He passed away in November 1995, nearly 82 years old.

Betty lived until December 2014, just three months shy of her 98th birthday.

Lee and Betty had six children, two boys and four girls: Jim, Nancy, Kathy, Rachel, Mark and Susan. Jim has already appeared in photos on this blog, and I am sure the others will also, in due course.
