The caption for this photo in Dad’s album is simply “At Zehr’s 1928.” I’m guessing Dad took this photo. It apparently was taken from an upstairs window in a house at Peter Zehr’s farm. The scene has a certain charm.

I don’t have identification for anyone in the photo.
Is that a mailman on the horse?
It could be, I suppose. It looks to me like there is a girl riding in front of the man on the horse, so I’m thinking maybe not a mailman. But it appears the man is holding some papers, and maybe reading them as they ride. Horses are sort of like self-driving cars!
Sorry, I forgot to make the photo so you could click it and view larger. That’s fixed.
I like your mailman idea, Timothy. But I wonder if maybe the man riding the horse went out to get the mail (presumably delivered at the end of a long driveway) and took his daughter along. Something like the arrival of mail would explain the seeming excitement of the boys on the fence, maybe. Just guessing.
Self-driving cars…so basically when humans adopted the motorized vehicle, they lost technology that we are only now maybe beginning to get back? 🙂
Your speculation seems very plausible, Lloyd! Mail was still a big deal when I was young so I can imagine it was even more so in 1928. It is a charming picture!
I like the theories!
Those are good possibilities, U. L.!! I hadn’t seen the girl on the horse, too. Guess I should study the picture a little more. 🙂 Thank you!
LOVE the picture and comments….takes me back….
