Mary Elizabeth McClain, Albany, c. 1921

After Mom’s grandfather Nathan McClain passed away in 1919, her grandmother Mary McClain sold the farm in North Albany and bought a house in Albany, at 1008 S Elm St. Sadly that house no longer stands. (More’s the pity, the site is now just a gravel parking lot.) But here is a photo of her standing on the porch of that house.

She didn’t live here long. She passed away in September 1923 (not long after Arthur and Addie’s 15th Wedding Anniversary). This photo could have been taken anytime between late 1919 when she moved here and her passing in 1923. I am arbitrarily giving the photo a date of about 1921.

The 1920 census shows two of Mary’s children living with her in this house: Ray and Clara. But Ray married in 1921, so evidently by the end it was just Mary and Clara.

  1. You are doing a capital job of resurrecting nearly-dead photos, and resurrecting old information. It is a delight to be educated every day!!! Thank you, Lloyd
