Hammell Family, c. 1926

The only information provided about this photo is that Mom/Florence was 16 years old when it was taken. So it was probably taken in 1926.

Mom evidently used this photo in a school assignment. It and several other photos were cut out (with rounded corners, in this case) and glued to a piece of paper. There is actually a note from the teacher on the back of the paper.

This is similar to a sheet of paper with photos glued to it that was stuck into the front of Mom’s photo album, as mentioned in this post. Possibly they were part of the same assignment. Judging from what the teacher wrote, these photos were intended as illustrations for some sort of narrative (possibly an autobiography). The writing is evidently lost, leaving only these two sheets of paper with photos glued to them. Some of the photos glued to this sheet have already been posted. But this one has not:

I’m not sure what was going on when this photo was taken. (For instance, why is the group posed in front of the car?) I’m also not sure where it was taken. Possibly on the McClain farm in Tallman, but that’s a guess.

In any event, we have a Hammell family group. Identifications (L to R): Addie McClain, Bernard McClain (behind), Betty McClain, Sarah Hammell with Billy Hutchins in front of her, Florence McClain, Pat Hutchins, Bessie Hammell,  Floyd (“Uncle Jack”) Hammel  Arthur McClain. I imagine John Hammell was behind the camera.  But where was Arthur McClain?

If you look closely, you will see someone has scribbled moustaches on some of the faces in the photo.
