John Hammell, the Hutchins and Others on a Drive, c. 1912

Mom (Florence) identified the children in this photo as Uncle Bernard (on the left) and herself. But keep in mind she was looking at a very faded photo. What you see here is much clearer (though far from ideal), and it seems unlikely that those identifications are correct.

The adults in the back seat are Bessie and Roy Hutchins. The child in Bessie’s lap appears to be Florence McClain at about age two. I do not recognize the girl next to Roy.

I also do not recognize the man in front driving this 1911 Cadillac Model 30 Touring Car (corrections welcome on the car identification). This car was only a year older than the one John Hammell drove, but there were a lot of technological improvements in the Cadillac Model 30 between the 1911 and 1912 model years. And speaking of John Hammell, he is the passenger in front.

I don’t recognize the location, either.

(If you can identify the unknown girl in back, the driver, or the location, please speak up!)

This seems like a peculiar assemblage of adults and children. I really don’t know what to make of it.

  1. Peculiar assemblage, I agree. Sorry I cannot help with any identification. Thank you for immensely improving the quality of this photo!
