Bessie Hammell, High School Graduation, 1905

Another Victorian era portrait, this one of Bessie Frances Hammell for her high school graduation.

Bessie was Grandma McClain’s (Addie Hammel’s) younger sister. A notation on the back indicates that she was sixteen when this photo was taken, which makes the year 1905. She turned 17 the following August.

(Yes, I know I’m spelling the name Hammel(l) differently for different people. My intent, which may or may not be successful, is to spell the name the way the person spelled it. As mentioned earlier, there is no consistency about the way it was spelled in the family—to the point that the grave markers for John Hammell and his wife Sarah Hammel don’t even spell it the same way.)
