That’s the caption on this photo in Dad’s album, just “At White Bluff.” I believe this is Harold, Mina and Lee, but what are they doing? What is Lee carrying in his right hand? And for that matter, where is “White Bluff”?

If that is the Santiam River in the background, I kind of think the group is standing on a feature that is named “The Cliff” on all USGS maps for the last 100 years. It is across the river and downstream a bit from Jefferson, on the northeast side of Hale Butte. I haven’t been to that exact spot, so I’m guessing a little.

The road that passes by the top of The Cliff is named Santiam Bluffs Road, so at least we have “bluffs” in a nearby name, even if not “White Bluff”.
