Elmer and Cheslah Lake, c. 1924

Arthur McClain’s next older sister Mary married Harvey Lake in 1903. They lived in Albany until the mid-1920s and had five children there: Elmer, Cheslah, Kenneth, Dorothy and Donald. Sometime before 1930, the Lakes moved to Ontario, Oregon, where Harvey and Mary lived for the rest of their lives, I believe.

I assume the photos below were taken while the family was still in the Albany area.

Elmer was born in 1906 and Cheslah in 1908, so they were a little older than Mom. If these photos were taken in 1924, Elmer would have been 18 and Cheslah 16.

Clearly some time elapsed between when the two photos were taken, based on the change in Cheslah’s hairstyle, if nothing else. The second is blurry enough that it is difficult even to guess whether it was taken earlier or later.
