Art Wright, Bobby Wright, Curls, c. 1942

A previous post had photos of Art at about the same age as the photos below, with the same golden locks. Apparently it wasn’t uncommon for young boys’ hair to be allowed to grow quite long before it was cut for the first time at about age two. Here are two more photos of Art with his long curls, both taken at 406 N Geary, probably in the first half of 1942.

This first photo shows Art with a cousin roughly the same age who is also sporting long locks.

Hannah Wright, Bobby Wright, Arthur Wright, Florence Wright

Hannah Smith (née Lane) and Lloyd Wright’s older brother Irvine married in August 1936. They had two sons, John and Bob. It is Bob and his mother in the photo above with Art and Mom (Florence Wright).

There is a note on the back of the photo in a hand I don’t recognize:

This is Hannah and Bobby. Look at his curls. Boys are about same age. Arthur don’t like it, because Bobby has his panda. They have their curls cut now.

Unfortunately there is no date that would give a hint when their curls were cut.

Here is another photo of Art before his curls were cut:

He seems to be checking out the smell of the flowers on the bush. Rather a cute photo, I think.
