Florence McClain, Cousins and Friends, c. 1926-1931

Here are a few photos of Florence McClain (Mom), some cousins and some friends.

Florence McClain in the middle, with friends. Date, location and circumstances unknown.

I don’t have any information about this photo. It must have been taken about 1926, because this was the hairstyle Mom had during that period. By 1928 when she graduated from high school, she had a shorter hairstyle and she kept that style more or less through nursing school. If you recognize any of the other people in this photo, please speak up!

The next photo jumps ahead a few years. It will be a memory test for those who have been hanging around this blog for a while.

Slumber party? It looks like it. From left: Alma Grugett (with the top of her head cut off, sadly), unknown, Mary McClain, Florence McClain, Myrtle McClain, Leah Rodenberger Grugett, Mereva Rodenberger, unknown. Photo taken outside the Grugett residence in Lebanon about 1931.

A little about the Grugetts was covered in this post, and a little about the Rodenbergers, in this post. Leah Rodenberger married Sidney Grugett in 1930, so probably was married in this photo. We first met Mary McClain having a tea party with Mom on an upturned apple box about 1914. Mary and Myrtle were daughters of Arthur McClain’s brother Jim. More about Jim and his family is in this post.

Likely this was the last time this group of ladies (mostly with ties to Tallman) got together. If Leah wasn’t already married, she would be very shortly. She continued to live in Lebanon. Within four years Alma would be married and living in Idaho, Mary would be married and living in Nebraska, Mom would be married and living in Albany, and Myrtle would be married and living in eastern Washington. Mereva passed away only ten years after this photo was taken.

Of course if you recognize either or both of the unknown ladies in the photo, please say so!

Finally, here is a photo of Mary and Myrtle McClain in front of the McClain house in Tallman. I imagine it was taken in about the same time frame as the above photo.

Cute sisters Mary and Myrtle McClain.
