Wrights in Monroe, 1945

In Summer 1944, not long after the Easter 1944 photos (in this previous post) were taken, the Lloyd Wright family left the house at 406 N Geary and Albany and moved to the tiny community of Monroe, about 30 miles southwest. They were there only a short time; they moved to Junction City (another 10 miles southeast) on April 1, 1946, just three weeks before Easter that year. This means they were in Monroe for only one Easter, April 1, 1945. I believe that is when these two photos were taken.

It is notable that in the Easter 1944 photo, Donna and Clara were very nearly the same height, with Clara possibly slightly taller. Donna evidently had a growth spurt in the interim and she is half a head taller than Clara here. Sadly for Donna, that would not last.

It seems clear that this photo was taken on the same day as the first one above. Everyone is wearing the same clothes. They just have their coats and (in some cases) hats on here. Why only the two youngest have hats on is an interesting question. There seems to be another Easter hat visible through the window just left of Donna’s head. Did someone (or even multiple someones) forget their hat(s)? Was everyone rushed outside to take this photo before all were ready? Probably typical when you’re trying to herd five children out the door to get to church on time.
