The “Big Three” Just Keeps Riding, 1938-1939

More photos of the “Big Three” (Donna, Clara, and Kathryn Wright)…

Lloyd, Clara, Donna, Kathryn (in arms), Florence Wright

The above photo was taken sometime in summer 1938, on the porch of the Wright residence on Geary Street. Kathryn is just a month or so old. Clara is just cute, Donna seems to be done with picture-taking (she is doing her best almost-four-year-old impression of Edvard Munch’s The Scream), Dad and Mom (Lloyd and Florence Wright) look really tired.

Another photo apparently taken at the same time as this one is in this previous post, another early post on this blog.

Donna, Kathryn, Verna Zeitler, Clara

The photo above looks like it was taken about the same time in 1938, in the yard of the house on Geary Street. Kathryn appears to be just a little bit bigger. It seems Donna is still not sure whether she is OK with having her picture taken. Clara is still cute. Verna Zeitler was a live-in maid/nanny for the Wrights around this time. She ultimately enrolled in nursing school at Emmanuel Hospital in Portland. Verna’s older sister Leona became the wife of Mom’s cousin Eldon McClain in November 1939.

Donna, Kathryn, Clara

I believe the photo above and the one below were taken on the porch of the McClain residence in Tallman. Kathryn is a little older now; this is possibly spring 1939. Donna is much happier about having her picture taken. She seems to be tracking with the photographer. Something or someone else seems to have caught the attention of Kathryn and Clara.

Donna, Kathryn, Clara (again)

All in all, no lack of cuteness with this “Big Three.”

  1. I added identification of the originally unidentified lady in the second photo of this post. Her name was Verna Zeitler.
