Florence McClain, Tallman, 1928

I get the impression there must have been some event behind this photo, though I don’t know for sure what it might have been.

This is Florence McClain, sitting on the porch of the McClain home in Tallman, Oregon, about 1928. It appears that it was breezy, the way the ties on her blouse are flying around, and perhaps a bit chilly the way she is hunched up.

Breezy and chilly suggests fall, though that isn’t the only possibility, of course. If the year was 1928, perhaps this photo was taken as Florence was leaving home to go to nursing school in Portland. But that is pure speculation.

It is a cute photo of Mom, in any case.

  1. She looks happy…I think that your guess that it might have been taken before she left for nursing school is a good guess!

  2. I agree with Kathryn and you, Lloyd; I think she is ready to leave home and go to nursing school.
